Parody Has its Purpose

Today, I saw a Star Wars: Episode 3 spoof by Sequential Pictures that was impressively produced for being so slapstick-stupid (I loved it!) and though I’d post it here.

But after looking around on their site a bit more, I ran into some other gems which kept me laughing for at least seventy-eight seconds longer.

Laughter is a good thing.  Especially tongue-in-cheek.

Star Wars Femtroopers - The Controversey Continues

Considering I’m a Star Wars dork (but having a life and personality without making constant references to it like some people), a friend of my sent me a great link today (Les Jones site)…

Femtrooper

Further investigation revealed that there are approximately thirty Femtroopers in the world today, mostly in the United States (thanks to SithVixen for the scoop).
Peter Hartlaub, at The San Francisco Bay Culture Blog, had a recent entry about the phenomenon.

This is perhaps the most celebratory development for horny Star Wars fans since Princess Leia became Jabba the Hutt’s barge ho.

I think these photos are really hot, but maybe that’s because I’ve seen “The Empire Strikes Back” at least 25 times and own a George Lucas action figure. While the armored hot pants and bare midriff are both nice touches, the contoured breast plate is definitely the sexiest/funniest part of the costume.

Unfortunately, some people just don’t get it.  A comment on that site, written by someone known only as bagdorka, reads:

You know, I’m all for the armor… But, sorry to say, it’s not the real deal until they are sporting hairstyle-compatible demi-helms that cover their faces. The true star wars geek wants to hear it through the speakers, if you know what I’m saying.

*ahem*  Yeah, ok.  Taking this stuff a little too seriously?

And TK5528 at the UK Garrison of the 501st Stormtrooper Legion seems to agree:

The “femtrooper thing” is strictly not permitted in the UK Garrison.

Besides, we in the UKG only do canon costumes in regards to Star Wars, and IMHO, femtroopers have very little to do with Star Wars.

*cough*  And somehow spending seven hundred (or more) pounds for a Stormtrooper outfit, going to a London Convention Center and trying to drink Guinness and Whitbread through your helmet does have something to do with Star Wars…?

Barry, a reader on the Les Jones site, had the following comment:

Well, it does inspire a new saying - “As useless as a codpiece on a femtrooper”

*Ding!*  *Ding!* *Ding!*  Finally, we have a winner!  Nice one, Barry.  ;-)

     Les Jones writes:

Femtroopers - Feminine versions of Star Wars stormtroopers, the better to hookup at DragonCon with.
 .
 .
 .
Natural environment - the hotel and/or convention center

Favorite put-down - aren’t you a little short for a stormtrooper?

I would venture to say they get plenty of dork-lines, as well, such as, ”Hey, baby, are those things real?”
Then again, I can also imagine them waving their hand, and saying, “These are not the breasts you’re looking for.”

Hello, Vader!

I wrote the title … that’s about all the “clever” I can muster for this one.
     *shakes head in disapproval*

George Lucas in Love

If you’re familiar with Star Wars (who isn’t?), you’ll love this short film which shows how George Lucas came up with the idea for Star Wars.

More Star Wars Apparel for Women

Like the Yoda Backpack mentioned last week, the t-shirt I found today is also geared towards women.

Our newest design, the These Aren’t the Breasts You’re Looking for t-shirts, harken back to the scene in Star Wars (Episode IV) when we see Obi-Wan Kenobi use the Jedi Mind Trick for the first time. (truly, it was the first indication of the force)How suave was old Ben Kenobi with his British accent, powerful eyes, and a little hand wave?  Who didn’t want to be him?

STAR WARS FANBOYS!  Don’t let nature stop you from having a good laugh.  Think about how much funnier this shirt is on you, with your man-breasts or your total lack of boobage.  You too can use the force (who knows…these t-shirts might even help you take home a Star Wars Fan Girl to meet your mom…JK!)

Brilliant shirt.  As a matter of fact, I can think of one friend right away who’d love to wear one when she goes out, although, she’d never get that it was a Star Wars line.

Darth Gets a Day Job?

Dan at SouthSEO (which may be under construction at the moment) sent me a link to hilarious fan film, featuring Darth Vader as supermarket manager (tip to The Age).

On that note, don’t forget to check out the Vader Sessions — link courtesy of another The Age reader.  Someone did a great job re-dubbing the original Star Wars with audio from other James Earl Jones movies.

The best bit comes in when Vader goes to get the TIE Fighter pilots to help him take out the Rebel fighters in the trench:  “I’d like to maintain the current level of Black representation on the committee… so let’s go for a stroll.”
     Good stuff.

Some Women Love Star Wars, too!

A little earlier, Swanky sent me a link to the Yoda Backpack from Popgadget: Personal Tech for Women.  The description chided:

Though fully functional like a real backpack, with room for books and adjustable straps, take a tip from the ladies and stay away or at least hide it for only your most geeky guy moments. Unless of course you find that very special girl whose definition of ‘hunky’ includes soda gut and the ability to recite verbatim the Jedi Code.

Never let your boss see your new camera phone this is what happens     Well, they are out there, in the wild.  And unlike most of the guys with such a fixation, some of them are attractive, don’t live with their parents, have jobs and enjoy conversations outside of Star Wars, Star Trek and Science Fiction in general.
A couple of weeks ago, I met just such a girl in Knoxville who had an absolute shrine of Star Wars paraphernalia the like of which I haven’t seen in twenty years.  She told me to let everyone know, she’s a “hot single chic looking for her geeky man.”  ;-)

As I’ve mentioned previously, I’m a bit of a Star Wars dork.  I have boxes upon boxes filled with Star Wars memorabilia, from Magazines and Newsletters to Toys to Zippo Lighters.  Now, my Star Wars collection dates back to 1976 (teaser posters and promotional items) and for the most part, ends abruptly in the early 1980’s.  She’s got a mixture like you wouldn’t believe…

Pics of the Shrine that is my bedroomJunkie I am, YesIt never endsYeah that is a Graduation Barbie... she is macking on Vader

After sending her the link for the Yoda backpack, I had to wonder if she’d seen the English Subtitles on the Chinese version of Stars Wars Episode III.

You are a sacrifice article that I cut up rough now!I should really feeds you all dog!

Backstroke of the West, indeed. ;-)

I am a Star Wars Dork

Most of my friends know that I’m a Star Wars dork.  Collected since the 70’s, comic books, bubble gum cards and toys in boxes have come in handy for making quick cash on more than one occasion.  I even have a small collection of Star Wars domain names.
Needless to say, I don’t take it as seriously as some people.  For me, it’s something fun, and a good diversion.  And I get to make a little cash.

But, as with many things Science Fiction, Role Playing or otherwise, there are people who go to extremes.  Swanky posted a photo a few days ago and sent me a link.

Hospitality Staff on the Death Star

I couldn’t help but think, “Ahh, man, they might be doing that for the rest of their lives.”

It’s not mine, but … Check out Dooku.net, and be sure to hit the white block under the movie for a little dorky humour.

Commemorative Coins - The Palpatine Dollar

Again at LR2, Anton comes up with an interesting observation.

Is it my imagination or does this look more like Palpatine than Franklin?

My question is, does is speak highly of Palpatine, or less of Franklin? The mind boggles…
